His publisher, Libellus Blockbustus, forsees a huge success ... but there's a snag: the chapter about Caesar's defeats by the indomitable Gauls of Armorica. Cut it, Blockbustus advises, and everyone will believe that Caesar conquered all Gaul. Or will they? Newsmonger and activist Confoundtheirpolitix takes the chapter to Asterix's village. Can the Gauls make sure the truth is revealed?

Following in the footsteps of Goscinny and Uderzo, the thirty-sixth Asterix album by Ferri and Conrad is a number 3 New York Times bestselling title.

Review
A brilliant addition to the Asterix family by Jean-Yves Ferri and illustrated by Didier Conrad. Perfect for children and adults alike, it's a book which I have no doubt will have you clutching your sides with laughter as you follow Asterix and Obelix on their latest adventure. The Bookbag An energetic story with some very bad/good jokes, and just enough silly Roman-bashing, it's just the sort of thing we Asterix fans love THE INDEPENDENT ON SUNDAY Asterix is a series which takes some liberties with historical fact, using the two thousand year gap between the time of the Roman Empire and the present day to great comic effect Aberdeen Press & Journal Didier Conrad's illustrations are absolutely fantastic and guarantee a lovely continuity of the series, especially if you're an Asterix fan. I thought the core of the story was brilliant. School Librarian Following in the footsteps of Goscinny and Uderzo, this is just as good as the originals and a delight to have a new Asterix story. The storyline is as funny as ever and the illustrations by Didier Conrad are spot on Parents In Touch Fast paced and extremely cheeky and funny with some brilliant digs and in-jokes about everything from politics to the press. Read It Daddy The artwork is very polished and dynamic. It looks just as good as any previous Asterix book, and one would have to be a real aficionado to tell it apart from Albert Uderzo's work. As for the writing, the story is on a par with many of the better books [...] it would appear that Asterix and Obelix will be entertaining children and adults for many, many years to come. -- Frank Plowright Slings and Arrows Graphic Novel Guide I would recommend this story to adventure fans everywhere. -- Lotus The Guardian Children's Books Young Reviewers The humour, married with the most intricate of details tells the 'real' story of Julius Caesar's defeat at the hands of the Gauls. Asterix, that feisty little Gaul, has transcended the ages! -- Natasha Radford The Best New Children's Books Guide A real treat ... the new books will appeal to young readers, for whom it will be, hopefully, just the beginning School Librarian The humour, married with the most intricate of details, tells the 'real' story of Julius Caesar's defeat at the hands of the Gauls. Asterix, that feisty little Gaul, has transcended the ages! The Guardian

This is a brand new Asterix tale which brought back memories of reading this series when I was little! Despite being a girly girl (something I'm even more into now) Asterix was somethig I loved despite there being barely any girls in it. It's a funny series, filled with humor which starts with someone's name. For example Cacophonix the bard is terrible at singing, so much so he frequently gets tied up and beaten up to save everyone's sanity. However, he is a secret weapon Asterix and co unleash on their enemies.

There are continuous jokes and conceptswhich reoccur in most books including this one. For example Obelix is forever annoyed that he isn't allowed any potion because he fell into a vat when he was a baby, which explains his superhuman strength. Boars appear in every story which happen to be Obelix's favourite food. There's always a feast, usually in the Gaul's village, at the end of the
story including this one. Also the village chief is frequently berated by his wife, among other incidents which I've forgotten. There are more subtle and obvious reoccurrences which readers familiar of the series will pick up on, but most of the humour even first time readers will love.

Everything which makes Asterix Asterix is in this latest book. It's been years since I read one so I haven't noticed a difference by having a different author and illustrator to the earlier volumes. There's plenty of historical themes to explore, some naturally have a lot of artistic licence, but I think Asterix played a small part in my love of the ancient world. Go check it out!

I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review on my blog Nayu's Reading Corner [...]

Very happy to read an entertaining and good Asterix book after many years. None of the new books can come close to earlier Goscinny-Uderzo collaborations but this comes the closest in my opinion.
