Excellent learning tool.

This book really takes what is important to Anatomy & Physiology students and breaks it down in a way that simplifies the learning process. As a former student of the author, I was amazed at how well I learned this subject matter with this material - especially the difficult physiology aspect. I have the kindle version of this book on my phone and have already used it many times in my Advanced EMT transition class that I am currently taking. It is a great reference to have at my fingertips and I highly recommend this book.

Bruce Forciea is an excellent instructor. I actually had him for anatomy and advanced anatomy and physiology. This book is a lot of what we learned in the class and it can be used as a quick reference. Great for nursing students and new nurses for quick reference.

Excellent book on the subject.

This is an excellent book that demonstrates that prostate cancer is mainly a nutritional disease. We in the West have a far higher prostate cancer rate than our Asian counterparts. And, it is due to diet, not ethnicity, or genes. When Asians emigrate to our shores and adopt our Western diet (rich in animal saturated fat), their prostate cancer rates immediately rises up to our levels.
The author extensively details how to restructure our Western diet so as to prevent and cure prostate cancer. This entails reducing our intake of saturated fats, mainly red meat, but also reduce dairy products. It also entails eating more soy in every shape or form (milk, tofu, soy powder). The author also recommends specific supplements. Some are well known like the antioxidant vitamins (C, E). But, others are not so well known such as Selenium, Soy proteins, among many others.
The author provides a lot of information about the PSA test. He is the first to recognize that this test is not very accurate. But, he also recommends several back up tests and benchmarks which can really enhance both the accuracy and the information value of the PSA test. Some of these back up tests include: PSA density, Free PSA test, and ultrasound. If you take the PSA test, and you come up with a high value (>4), you ought to follow through with these other non invasive tests who may very well prevent the need for much more uncomfortable and invasive tests.
The author provides extensive advice on all the different options to cure prostate cancer. On this ground, this book is excellent for several reasons. This book can provide you much valuable information to remove most of the anxiety associated with taking some hard decisions. In my case, it has removed a good deal of anxiety on how I can prevent this condition. Like in anything, prevention is the best defense. And, this book can help you do that.
If you are concerned about your prostate and overall health, I also strongly recommend the book "The Harvard Medical School Guide To Men's Health." It covers any ailment related to the prostate as well as many other conditions that affect the male gender.

Very Helpful

I purchased this book upon being diagnosed with prostate cancer. I found it very informative regarding the dietary causes for prostate cancer, and how diet could help keep it under control. I put the recommended program to work for me, while I waited to have prostate surgery, which I have now had successfully. Upon surgery, my PSA had gone down slightly, when the norm is for it to have gone up. This helped me realize there was something I could be doing to slow down my cancer while waiting for treatment. I continue to stay close to its recommendations after surgery. The book is very readable and very informative. I highly recommend it for any man. Read it before you get prostate cancer and start the prevention dietary program. I believe it has helped me learn to eat more nutritiously.

A Must Read for Males and their Female Companions

Should start bysaying that I have had prostate cancer. Surgery in 1998 and radiation in 2007.

Dr. Bob Arnott's book was helpful to me. Much of the material I had read over the years that I have been dealing with prostate cancer. The difference in this book is that it summarizes all of the reliable information available at this time and presents it for you to read and digest.

Unfortunately there are no magic or silver bullets for prostte cancer. It can come back, as it did with me. None of the choices are the best or even great but you can live through them, though you may well have the consequences such as incontinence and erectile dysfunction.

Very helpful in presenting dietary information that I have not found presented so well in other places.

This is a book that those with prostte cancer or those who want to avoid prostate cancer should read.

About the Author
Ann M. Selmi has taught for over 40 years, and most of her career has been spent working with young children with or without disabilities and their teachers. For the past 8 years she has taught teachers at California State University, Dominguez Hills, where she prepares early childhood teachers to address some of the most challenging situations in the Los Angeles area. Her research focuses on the relationship between the development of language and play. She also worked for 5 years as a researcher on the cochlear implant program for young deaf children at the House Ear Institute in Los Angeles, and she spent one year as a visiting researcher at the National Institute of Child Health and Development in the Child and Family Research Section in Bethesda, Maryland.

Raymond J. Gallagher began his career as a general education teacher and as a teacher in special education. As a university educator, he has been involved in research concerning the development of young children who are at risk for and diagnosed with disabilities, and the ways they and their families are served. He continues to be involved in personnel development preparing individuals to teach in P–12 settings that serve the educational needs of all youngsters. Dr. Gallagher is a Professor of Clinical Education in the Rossier School of Education at the University of Southern California.

Eugenia R. Mora-Flores is an Associate Professor in the Rossier School of Education at the University of Southern California (USC). She teaches courses on first and second language acquisition, Latino culture, and in literacy development for elementary and secondary students. Her research interests include studies on effective practices in developing the language and literacy skills of English learners in Grades Pre-K–12. She has written more than four books in the area of literacy and academic language development (ALD) for English learners. She also works as a consultant for a variety of elementary, middle, and high schools in the areas of English language development, ALD, and writing.

But his efforts beget new forms of chaos--objects are lost or destroyed, skylights are crashed through, fires started, sexual experiments ruinously interrupted. Grade 7 Up--Time magazine called the Swedish movie of the same title "the most popular foreign-language film in the U. S." Now, three years later, we have an English-language translation of the novel that inspired the movie, and while it is unlikely to replicate the film's popularity, it is every bit as engagingly quirky and idiosyncratic. The story it tells of 13-year-old Ingemar Johansson's coming of age in the late 1950s is much the same, too--seemingly unloved by his dying mother, the boy is sent off to live with his hapless uncle in remote Smaland, where he encounters the same engagingly eccentric cast of characters who peopled the film. There the similarities end, however, for the tone of the book is much darker than that of the film, and the emotional (and sexual) development of Ingemar--who tells his story in his own unsparing first-person voice--is much more richly realized. That Ingemar survives both his own emotional starvation and personal rejection is evidence of the sheer doggedness of the human spirit. Not a children's book at all, My Life as a Dog 's crossover potential as a YA novel is unfortunately compromised by a clumsy translation. Despite this, the book remains intrinsically a meritorious, powerful novel that should be considered for purchase for the sake of the special readership it will attract. --Michael Cart, Beverly Hills Pub . My favorite movie of all time.

Few movies come this close to perfection. This is an intelligent and moving story of a boy who must come to terms with abandonment, loss and the casual betrayal of adults. Extremely well acted on all sides, with a bold script that dares to ask the important questions. Ingemar must try to find some balance in his life, as he is tossed from one "home" to another, like a stray dog... or, like the Soviet space-dog Laika, who was sent into space only to starve to death in orbit. "They never intended to bring her back." The final scenes of "My Life as a Dog" do win out, when the odd town's crazy old man takes a swim in the frozen river. The whole cast of peculiar town-folk come out to "rescue" him, and offer him a place by the fire, a blanket, a little whiskey... Here, Ingemar finds balance in the love of other people, so one is left, not with a sense of despair, but with a sense of hope in the midst of sorrow and loss.
Note: I recommend the subtitled version over the dubbed version, as the language and inflections should be experienced in full.

ONE OF THE ALL TIME GREATS IN CINEMA

A massive world wide hit when it was first released.Simply the greatest film about childhood ever made.An absolute flawless film in every way. The final scene combined with the memorable music will stick in your mind forever. A masterpiece of film making - truly unforgetable and exceptionally moving.I have seen it numerous times over the years.One of the ten best films I have ever seen.

One of the great movies about children

I absolutely agree with Mr. Frazer. I first viewed the film over 20 years ago and to my tastes, it is one of the best films about children of which I am aware. I would place it on par with "Fanny and Alexander" and "Hope and Glory" (Boorman). The film does have a mild sexual content, but we allowed our son to see it even when he was young. (In the US some might not agree with this choice.) We've watched it again and again through the years. Similar to our experience with other exceptionally fine movies (and wines), it seems to improve with age. I would recommend it without any reservations whatsoever.

About the Author
Lauren Costine, PhD, is an LA-based therapist specializing in therapy with for lesbians. In addition to her therapeutic practice, Costine is an educator, activist, administrator, and author. She is currently the Chief Clinician and Founder of The LGBT-Affirmative Track at BLVD Treatment Centers – an intensive outpatient treatment center in Hollywood. She was one of the founding members and developers of The LGBT Specialization in Clinical Psychology at Antioch University Los Angeles (AULA), the nation’s first LGBT-Affirmative program where she still teaches. Her involvement included the development and teaching of such popular courses as LGBT History & Myth, Lesbian Liberation and LGBT Community Action.. Professionally, she has presented workshops at various national and regional conferences and has published a number of articles in such magazines as SheWired, Addiction Professional Magazine and Smart Lesbian Online Magazine. As an activist, Costine has helped produce a variety of grassroots psychological cultural events aimed to promulgate LGBT-Affirmative psychological ideas for the community in accessible ways through various mediums via The LGBT Specialization. A love letter to lesbians

As a therapist and as a lesbian, I found this book to be invaluable. Dr. Costine’s tone in this important book is warm and empathetic. The book takes the reader through a multifaceted explanation of how love addiction occurs and adds the much needed component of lesbian psychological and environmental factors that affect lesbians so strongly. The book is also a love letter to lesbians in that it is a wish for all lesbians to understand their own psyche and have the best chance at self love and love for others! I have already recommended this book to some lesbian therapy clients and find referring to this book so helpful.

Author got it wrong

He's got a few good points, but unfortunately he falls in line with the notion that repentance is just "turning from unbelief to belief". He also ignores such passages as I Thessalonians 1:9 which shows that repentance does involves a general turning from sin to God. He also completely misses the point of Acts 22:21, which plainly shows that repentance is different from faith. They are not the same as the author claims, but rather two sides of the same coin [salvation] working hand-in-hand together--i.e. while you're doing one you're doing the other. I do not recommend this book for anyone new to the faith.

He's done better books than this. And there are far better books out there on this topic--such as the one by Harry Ironside,
